Corralitos, CaliforniaWe selected Howerton Construction to build our Tuscan Contemporary house in the Santa Cruz Mountains after considering eight of the top builders in a two county area. Howerton Construction was the only company to receive zero negative comments or concerns from the five references we checked upon narrowing our choice of builders down to three firms. Over the course of our 2.5-year project, our choice was consistently validated as the correct decision. Amazing attention to detail, a commitment to doing things the right way and excellent communication skills are trademarks of this company. We would be happy to answer any questions you might have regarding our experience with Howerton Construction.

Pebble Beach, CaliforniaGreg Howerton has done two projects for us; the first a major remodel in Rio Del Mar, and the second a total rebuild of a country club home in Pebble Beach. The fact that we would have a builder do a second project should speak volumes about how he performed on the first one.
Greg is a trustworthy and reliable builder and uses only high quality sub contractors. During these two projects which encompassed approximately five years of our lives, neither of us can recall ever having the slightest issue with Greg or one of his subs. On the contrary, we hosted Greg and all his subs and their wives for parties following completion of our projects.
Greg has made it a practice to never engage himself in more than a few projects at a time. He is aware of and in control of every detail of every project. He is both budget conscious and quality driven, and we have been extremely satisfied with both our finished projects and the costs associated with each.
I wish I could speak highly about Greg’s responsiveness to construction problems or defects which occur over time, but I cannot. The reason for that is there are no problems or defects occurring over time. Do yourself a favor. If you want a builder you can trust to give you a quality product that holds up over time, Greg Howerton is your man.

Aptos, CaliforniaOne of the sincere pleasures of our partnering with Greg was the process itself — it was truly a labor of love. Not only do we have a beautifully-built home, but there are only positive memories related to its construction. The process was just as enjoyable as the finished product.

Aptos, CaliforniaWe have built two houses, one in Los Angeles and one in Aptos, and, unlike the horror stories one often hears about construction, both of our projects proved to be exciting and rewarding experiences because we followed one simple rule: Hire the best builder available. In the Monterey and Santa Cruz area, that is Greg Howerton.
On our project, Greg lived up to the rave reviews we had heard from other project owners, and proved to be attentive, responsive and, most importantly, creative in his approach to the project and the innumerable issues that arose during the course of construction. Moreover, Greg's commitment to excellence is reflected in his personal commitment to the project, even years after its completion, and in the quality of his project foremen and subcontractors, both as craftsmen and individuals, many of whom, along with Greg, have remained friends years later. Suffice it to say, we would, without hesitation, hire Greg for our next project.

Aptos, CaliforniaContrary to popular belief, building a home can be an exhilarating, fulfilling adventure. What is the secret to success? Locating and working with the BEST.
When I was ready to pursue my lifetime goal of building a home on the coast, I interviewed numerous builders/general contractors, asking each the same questions. When I talked with Greg Howerton of Howerton Construction in Aptos, I felt I had found the best. He listened, we communicated easily and he understood my concerns.
Throughout the building process, Greg was always in control of the project. He has great skill in managing his crew and the sub-contractors, as well as interacting with and reassuring my neighbors. My home was completed in a timely fashion and with few add-ons, except of course, for those additional things I just had to have. Greg's crew and sub-contractors were extremely capable and many were true artists. All of their attention to detail was definitely reflected in the completed structure and my extremely high expectations were met. Guests in my home never fail to mention its comfort and warmth — qualities that Greg and his crew instilled.
There is no doubt Greg Howerton is the BEST and I'd never build a house without him.

Santa Cruz, CaliforniaWorking with Greg Howerton and the experienced crew at Howerton Construction was an absolute pleasure. In every aspect of our job, Greg took pains to listen to what we really cared about, educate us about our choices, make sure that we understood the costs and timing associated with the plan, and then deliver exactly what he promised. The result is a house that we absolutely love, built for the right price, and finished at the right time.
When we tell our friends about what it was like to have Howerton Construction build our house, we always begin by raving about Greg. This invariably provokes shock and disbelief, because it seems that everyone else who has ever built a house ended up wanting to kill their contractor. Not us — we had a great experience with Greg and with everyone who works for him. They cared tremendously about the work that they did; they consistently delivered what they promised, when they promised it; and they were a delight to work with.
We like to talk about the "Philosopher Carpenters" who built our house — they read Somerset Maugham on break, they nibbled on Vietnamese spring rolls at lunch, they played classical guitar and saxophone, and I once overheard them debating whether it is better to brine the Thanksgiving turkey or do a dry rub and then barbecue it. And of course, they never stopped endeavoring to complete every project they tackled perfectly. In every way, working with Howerton Construction made our house building experience a positive one. The end product tells it all — we just love our house!

Watsonville, CaliforniaIn the process of looking for a builder, we interviewed the top contractors in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties. Although many of those that we interviewed were of high caliber, Greg Howerton exemplified what we were looking for in terms of understanding our goals, time and resource management, integrity, responsiveness, skill, and a professional make it happen attitude.
The relationship between a client and contractor is critical to the success of the project. Communications is the key component of that relationship. From the analysis of costs, thru to the finish details, Greg Howerton was proactive and available to answer questions and if he didn't know the answer, he did the research to find out the very best solution. Greg is essentially a problem solver. He looks at each challenge as an opportunity to demonstrate creativity and innovation.
Our personal project offered Greg some unique opportunities: A remote location, site-milled lumber, many reclaimed and recycled materials, off the grid - green technology, a desire for an historically accurate structure, and an uncompromising demand for the highest quality woodwork added complexity to the process. We collaborated with Greg to refine our ideas, solidify our design, and access components and crafts people complementary to the project.
Howerton Construction has cultivated a loyal core group of professional tradesman who are true artisans in their respective fields. Each member of the team brings a depth of experience and skill to the job site. More importantly, they each take ownership of their component of the project reflecting the continuity and craftsmanship that is the trademark of Howerton's work.
Greg assists each client in articulating their dream into form, function and personal expression. After all a home is a mirror of one's inner self.
